You want to know what the avid poker player on your Christmas list really wants this year? Socks and underwear.

Poker

Kidding! No one really wants socks and underwear… The poker player in your life wants something that’s going to help them play their game more often or better.

Fortunately, the world is full of great trinkets, gadgets, and gifts that feature the great game of poker. In fact, there are so many different gifts out there, it’s hard to narrow them down to what are really good gifts and what are just lumps of coal in disguise.

Fortunately, I like to play poker, and I really like to get gifts. Therefore, I put together a list of 10 things that you can give this year across different budgets.

All of these items are fun and provide a little spark for the poker player in your life. They should be exactly what that special someone is looking for under the tree.

A Note About Price

Pricing on the internet is an interesting thing.

NOTE:

All of the prices listed below are accurate as of the time of writing this post. However, prices do have a tendency to fluctuate over time.

Things can go on sale, go off sale, get sold out, etc. It gets even more interesting when looking at sites like Etsy which offer handmade items, and Amazon, which sells items via third parties (and its own fulfillment).

Because of this, you may not be able to find the items below at the price I listed because they could have changed. Also, it may be that I found a price from a seller that is lower than the sellers that appear when you do a search. Therefore, if I have something marked with a lower price, do some additional Googling to see if you can find the right price.

Lastly, for the purposes of this article, whenever I found an item for sale twice on the same site, I took the lower price. This means you should have some hope that you can get these items for the price I listed if you look hard enough.

Sriracha Playing Cards ($10+ on Amazon)

I was sorely tempted to put Sriracha playing cards on the list under “Funny Gifts” below, but then again, I couldn’t let it go.

They’re sriracha playing cards, which is both funny and awesome. Who wouldn’t want a deck of cards with the famous rooster sauce logo on them? Even people who don’t love spicy food still have a warm place in their heart for everyone’s favorite condiment.

Therefore, if you need a cheap gift for someone and you know they like sriracha, I cannot recommend these cards enough. They also make great stocking stuffers!

Molly’s Game ($10+ Book, $13+ Movie on Amazon)

Poker has contributed a lot to various forms of entertainment and there are several movies and books on this subject. The seminal work of poker in films is Rounders (which is a personal opinion, but one I am happy to defend).

With that said, Rounders has been around for a while and is featured on just about every cable movie channel you are likely to run across.

On the other hand, Molly’s Game is different, dramatic, and puts a face on poker and the work that goes into being a high roller that most players don’t expect. The movie also features jaw-dropping performances from Idris Elba, Jessica Chastain, and (again in my opinion), Kevin Costner’s best acting since Dances with Wolves.

This gives the movie broad appeal that even non-poker players will enjoy. Because of that, my recommendation is buying either the movie Molly’s Game, the book of the same name or both for your poker player.

Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself watching the movie as often as they do.

Funny Gifts ($15+ on Amazon)

As mentioned above, sites like Amazon and Etsy are fully of generally funny poker-related gifts that range for some laugh out loud funny gifts to a few that firmly take the prize for best worst pun.

For the poker player on your list, you can choose things like the “I’m bluffing” t-shirt, toilet paper that looks like cash, various posters with funny poker slogans, and even a stuffed animal with a dealer’s hat on.

Finding the right gift here is totally up to you and your audience. Just make sure you get a gift that’s in good taste. Some of the “jokes” might not land in certain crowds.

Poker Whiskey Glasses ($19+ on Etsy)

There’s just something about whiskey and poker that go together perfectly. While a lot of people enjoy beer with their poker, I much prefer a nice cigar and a glass of something oaky and aged.

If that’s the direction I’m going, I might as well serve that whiskey to my friends and poker opponents in a glass that has something to do with poker. Various options are all over Etsy. The $19 dollar option features a royal flush motif which I’ll never see at the table, so I might as well see it on my glass.

Feel free to look around, though, and match the whiskey glass to your favorite poker player.

Vegas Sign ($28+ on Amazon)

As much as we want to, we can’t go gambling in Las Vegas every day. However, we can keep the neon lights going in our own home with an incredibly affordable metal and LED light sign.

A fairly good-sized sign that is a replica of the famous Las Vegas sign, this thing is perfect for an office or your poker room where you can keep that Sin City feeling going all through the year.

I would recommend keeping the lights off sometimes. Save power and be safe!

Personalized Poker Chips ($30+ on Oriental Trading Company)

I have a theory. If my opponents have to play with chips that have my face on them, they’re a lot more likely to toss them into the pot rather than look at me.

You can let the poker player in your life test this theory, too, with personalized poker chips. For a ridiculously low price, you can get chips with a picture and two lines of text on them that are completely unique to the gift recipient in your life.

Engraved Whiskey Bottles ($28+ on Amazon)

Remember when I said that whiskey and poker go together? Good, because I am doubling down on this fact.

Glass etching has become more and more affordable, and you can now get a whiskey bottle personalized to your favorite poker player. In most cases, this is just the bottle, so you don’t have to worry about shipping liquor across state lines, so that’s a nice added bonus.

Poker Tabletop ($44+ on Amazon)

If your favorite poker player hosts a game night and doesn’t have a poker tabletop, they need this gift. The table topper comes in its own bag to keep it clean and has the green felt of a real poker table and places for cards and chips.

You might want to make sure they have a circular table or provide a blanket to prevent scratching.

Again, you can’t bring Vegas home, but this is pretty close.

Daniel Negreanu’s MasterClass ($99 on MasterClass)

I will argue that no matter how good your poker player is, they have something to learn from Daniel Negreanu through his poker program MasterClass.

This collection of videos is perhaps the most comprehensive poker teaching tool anywhere on the internet and covers a lot of topics you don’t see too many places. Plus, the MasterClass site makes it very easy to give as a gift.

Just make sure your recipient has a good internet connection!

Hotel Gift Certificates (Varies)

If you know that your favorite poker player likes to go to Vegas, get away to Atlantic City, or spend the night at the local casino, get them a gift certificate to a hotel. You don’t have to fund their entire trip. You don’t have to pay for the night, but if you know their favorite hotel, this can be a thoughtful gift that spurs them to take that next trip.

You can also use it to expose your poker player to a city or casino in which they’ve never stayed. The choice is yours, but again, don’t worry about the amount. Any dollar you spend is one more dollar they get to throw down on the table.

Conclusion

Okay, confession time. I actually do like socks and underwear for Christmas. It’s something I don’t have to go buy for myself…

With that said, if I had a choice between socks and underwear and, say, sriracha playing cards or Molly’s Game the book, I am definitely choosing one of those gifts every time.

Anyway, you know your gift recipient best, but hopefully you can see that there are a number of gifts you can give your poker players that suit any budget!
