What makes the American roulette wheel different from the European version is the fact that it has an extra double (00) slot, which is located at the opposite side from the single zero (0) slot. Exactly like the European roulette, American roulette wheel also features numbers 1 through 36, which means it has a total of 38 pockets. There's also some handy (but not necessarily easy) information at the bottom about working out roulette probabilities, plus a little bit on the gambler's fallacy. A roulette wheel in the U.S. Contains 38 equally sized spaces. The wheel is spun and a ball randomly lands in one of these spaces. Two spaces are green and have numbers 0 and 00 on them. The other spaces are numbered from 1 to 36. Half of these remaining spaces are red and half of them are black.
Differences
There are 38 pockets to the Double Zero Roulette wheel, there are numbers 1 through to 36 with a single 0 and a 00 (double zero). The zeros are placed in green as you’d expect from any roulette game, but they are positioned opposite each other on the wheel.
- 48.60% are the odds on a roulette table for a wide range of outside bets. For example, the bets including Even/Odd, Red/Black or Low/High offer the highest odds on roulette with European (48.60%) and American (47.40%) layout. These roulette betting odds mean.
- This bet doesn't exist in European roulette, as the European roulette wheel doesn't have the 00. It's important to note that despite the fact that the American roulette wheel has an extra number (00), the odds for both 0 and 00 are 35/1, which is the same as betting on 0 on the European roulette wheel.
Another difference is the way the numbers are placed on the wheel – compared to European Roulette wheels, running clockwise the numbers are; 0, 28, 9, 26, 30, 11, 7, 20, 32, 17, 5, 22, 34, 15, 3, 24, 36, 13, 1, 00, 27, 10, 25, 29, 12, 8, 19, 31, 18, 6, 21, 33, 16, 4, 23, 35, 14, 2. There is an additional betting option on the table too – the spot for the double zero (can be found next to the single zero).
Objective
Like any game of roulette, it’s a game of chance and you have to guess correctly where you think the ball will come to rest. Correct bets will be met with a return as stated within the rules of the game. Study the wheel and the place your bets accordingly before the game commences.
Better odds?
Double Zero Roulette offers terrible odds compared to those of the standard European Roulette game with one zero. The original game offers a house edge of 2.70% whilst the Double Zero Roulette version offers a house edge of 5.26%.
The double zero and single zero are the pockets that give the house edge. If you were to bet on the double zero, you can expect a return of 35 to 1.
Other bets offered include the usual bets such as inside bets of; straight, split, street, corner and top line. Outside bets offered include; red or black, odd or even, high or low, dozen bets and column bets.
Any better than other games?
Due to the odds that the game offers, it is known as the worst possible variety of roulette you can choose to play – but it doesn’t stop t being enjoyable or producing some big wins.
